India is the 7th biggest spammer

Did that come as a surprise? Given the fact that India’s Internet penetration is not that high. India has around 35 million Internet users and it is the 7th biggest spam sender in the world. India is also the biggest spammer in Asia. India accounts for 4.26% of the global spam. India is ahead of China, which sends 3.39% of global spam. Russia leads the pack with 11.73% of the global spam coming from it.

Interesting thing is European countries do not feature in the list. The top 10 spammers contribute to 57% of the global spam. I guess the rest is contributed by Europe and Asia.
Thailand contributes 2.04%

Check out the complete listing below:

  1. Russia (11.92%)
  2. United States (9.36%)
  3. Brazil (7.48%)
  4. Turkey (5.43%)
  5. Columbia (5.34%)
  6. Argentina (4.96%)
  7. India (4.26%)
  8. China (3.39%)
  9. Spain (2.69%)
  10. Republic of Korea (2.57%)

All the four BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries feature in the top 10 list. BRIC countries are the emerging economies of the world. I guess the spam and economy are related. I am also a little surprised that India beat China in this. China will not take this lightly and they will be fight back. The same report next year would feature China in the top 3. India wouldn’t mind taking a back seat.
